About
I’m a lifelong Merrimack Valley resident and have proudly lived in Newbury for the past 27 years. After a career as a private business owner, I chose to devote more of my time to public service and community involvement. I have served four years on the Newbury Planning Board and nearly three years on the Newbury Select Board, where I’ve worked to support thoughtful planning, protect our natural resources, and preserve the character of our town. I’m a member of Alliance of Climate and Environmental Stewards (ACES), a group working to improve waste management in our community by collaborating with surrounding towns and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In addition to volunteer fundraising for veterans, seniors, student scholarships and families in need, I'm a nine-year member of Elks Lodge #909. Because supporting Newbury’s schools has always been important to me, I am also a member of the Triton District Communications Commission (DCC) which focuses on school district communication and budgetary discussions involving the Triton Regional School District.
Family is at the center of my life. I’ve been married to my husband, Tony Matthews, for 46 years. Together we’ve raised two wonderful daughters, Erin Matthews and Dana Sayers, and we are proud grandparents to Tadhg, Skylar, and River. Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I remain committed to working hard for the residents of Newbury.

Prairie, Abraham Lincoln and Mom
Mission

For nearly three decades, Newbury has been my home, and I care deeply about protecting the character, history, and natural beauty that make our town such a special place to live.
Schools come first. They are the foundation of our community and our future. I’m committed to making sure they remain strong, well-supported,
and responsive to the needs of Newbury families.
We must stand by our seniors. I will advocate for our Council on Aging
and ensure older residents have access to the services, programs, and support they deserve to stay active and connected.
Public safety is essential. I believe in working hand-in-hand with our
Police and Fire Departments to keep Newbury safe, prepared, and well-served.
I’m committed to protecting the Great Marsh and Newbury’s natural resources, preserving what makes our town special. And I will work collaboratively with neighboring communities and the Commonwealth to address shared challenges like waste management in a smart, sustainable way.
Most importantly, I believe town government works best when communication is open and respectful among residents, boards, committees, and departments. I’m committed to continuing that work and ensuring Newbury remains a strong, welcoming community for generations to come.

Less than 7% of registered voters participated in the May 12th election. Our democracy works when citizens vote in all elections, from school boards to environmental committees to local and state representatives.
Let's pledge to do better!
